Marching Mustangs Have Successful Band Camp
The Hoxie Band prepped for their upcoming marching season by spending a week at Wayland Springs Church Camp in Imboden. During the week they worked on marching fundamentals, playing fundamentals, and learned some of the music and drill for their 2011 show "The Agency." In the evening, the students spent their time hanging out, playing games, watching movies, or attacking band directors with water guns.
The camp was held July 25-29, and during that week the average temperature was right around 100. The band had to work extra hard to endure the heat, and take extra precautions to make sure they stayed healthy during the week long camp. The band directors were very proud of their students, who despite the heat were able to get their entire opener on the field by the end of camp.
The camp's culmination was a parent night held on Thursday night in which the band performed part of their new show, played new and famaliar tunes for their families, and performed skits recapping the weeks events.
The innaguaral performance for the Hoxie Marching Band will be at the first Hoxie football game against Episcopal Collegiate on Friday, September 2nd. The band takes the field for competion for the first time in Jonesboro at the Mid-South Marching Contest on October 1.
